A clearer modernization sequence
Self-assessment tools, practical guidance, and reviewed program pathways help operators identify what to address first, what can wait, and where modernization is most likely to create operational value.
NARI helps vending and autonomous retail operators — especially independent ones — navigate equipment, payments, telemetry, financing, software, AI, locations, and service without evaluating every decision alone.
Through shared market intelligence, reviewed program pathways, cohort-based purchasing, and modernization support, operators gain clearer choices and stronger terms while keeping control of their businesses, customers, provider relationships, and data.
Modernization Program applications are expected to open in Q4 2026, with the first program activities and implementations expected to begin in Q1 2027.
Route labor rose roughly 18% last year, to around $49,000 per driver. Card readers and telemetry systems across legacy fleets are approaching replacement age. Meanwhile, operators face more processors, platforms, equipment formats, financing offers, and AI tools than ever before. Cost is no longer the only barrier — and often not the hardest one. The hard part is choosing the right upgrades, in the right sequence, on the right terms.
The cost of smart connected equipment has fallen by more than 90% over the past six years. But modernization remains complex. The risks are not only paying too much, but upgrading in the wrong sequence, choosing incompatible systems, or adding new operational complexity.
Most operators face this alone. Two out of three operators are businesses with under $1 million in annual revenue, without the procurement teams, technology analysts, or internal capacity available to national chains.
NARI gives operators a way to address these shared challenges together.
Self-assessment tools, practical guidance, and reviewed program pathways help operators identify what to address first, what can wait, and where modernization is most likely to create operational value.
Where sufficient data exists, participating operators may receive confidential comparisons with relevant peer groups, alongside aggregated sector insights and practical research.
As NARI programs come online, participating operators may access relevant group-purchasing, preferred-term, financing, and provider-sponsored voucher opportunities.
Participating offers are reviewed against published operator-value criteria, including scope, pricing clarity, implementation readiness, service capacity, data practices, compatibility, and conflicts of interest.
NARI develops access to equipment financing, modernization packages, training, and location opportunities as operator needs and credible provider capabilities come together.
Participation does not transfer ownership of your business, customers, provider relationships, systems, operational knowledge, or data. Shared benchmarking is voluntary and anonymized.
NARI's goal is to help operators access competitive, transparent, and operator-relevant modernization terms. When NARI-supported offers are available, they should be benchmarked against comparable market alternatives. If better verified like-for-like terms exist, NARI can use that information to negotiate improvements, update partner terms, or guide operators toward the better pathway.
NARI is a nonprofit industry association — not a broker taking a cut. It is supported through membership, institutional funding, and disclosed participation by program providers. NARI does not sell undisclosed placement and takes no undisclosed referral or success fees. No provider reviews its own offer, and material commercial relationships and conflicts are disclosed.
NARI’s review helps operators compare available pathways and reduce avoidable purchasing risk. It is not a guarantee of provider performance or business results, and operators remain responsible for their own commercial, legal, technical, and financial decisions.
NARI is forming its first operator cohort around real modernization needs. Applications are expected to open in Q4 2026, and the first program activities and implementations are expected to begin in Q1 2027. The program is being designed to include provider-sponsored, non-cash support for eligible AI Digital Twin implementations and smart hardware deployments. Participants may receive access to program pathways, financing and preferred terms as they become available, and a direct voice in improving NARI’s operator programs, review criteria, data rules, and modernization priorities.
Operators are not entering a closed platform. They are helping shape an industry pathway designed to remain open to multiple qualified providers.
